Two Wayne County students, Miller Simpson and Kenna Anselment, have been nominated for U.S. military service academies. Miller, the son of Cam and Melissa Miller Simpson from Fairfield has received a nomination to the Air Force Academy, while Kenna, daughter of Gregory and Samantha Anselment from Wayne City has been nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy. These nominations were announced by U.S. Representative Mike Bost, who nominated a total of 17 students from Southern Illinois. A dinner honoring the nominees was held in Mount Vernon, and the nomination process included a review by an independent panel, although final admissions decisions are made by the academies
