VEHICLE FIRE INVOLVING AN AMBULANCE ON I-64 NEAR THE WOODLAWN EXIT

Illinois State Police responded to an ambulance on fire on I-64 Westbound at milepost 70 near the Woodlawn exit just before 9 Tuesday night.  State Police say a 2019 Ford ambulance became fully engulfed and when emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the ambulance crew and patient were all out of the burning vehicle.   The patient was being transported from Kentucky to a St. Louis Hospital.  All were taken to a Mt. Vernon Hospital by Litton’s Ambulance to prepare for the completion of the trip.

The westbound lane of I-64 was blocked for about two hours and the cause of the fire is unknown.
