OLNEY CENTRAL COLLEGE HOSTED ACADEMIC CHALLENGE FOR ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE COMPETITION

Students from 12 area high schools competed in the 2025 Academic Challenge for Engineering and Science Competition held at Olney Central College, sponsored by Eastern Illinois University.

Division Results:

In Division 300, the schools competing included Clay City, Edwards County, Hutsonville, Lawrenceville, Oblong, and Palestine. Oblong took first place, followed by Edwards County in second and Lawrenceville in third.

For Division 700, the competing schools were Flora, Fairfield Community, Mt. Carmel, Newton Community, and Robinson. Robinson emerged victorious, with Mt. Carmel in second place and Newton Community finishing third. The first- and second-place teams from each division will advance to the next level of competition.

Individual Awards:

Individual awards were presented across various categories including Biology, Chemistry, Computational Science, Engineering Graphics, English, Math, and Physics.

In Division 300, Johnnie Mooney from Clay City won first place in Computational Science, while Mason Morehead from Clay City tied for second. Jaxon Prochazka from Clay City secured third place in Engineering Graphics.

In Division 700, Loralei Griffith from Flora won third place in Chemistry. In Physics, Michael Gill from Flora tied for second, with Adam Pietz from Flora tying for third.

As an added incentive, Illinois Eastern Community Colleges awarded tuition waivers to graduating seniors who placed first in their exam categories. Additionally, the first- and second-place individual winners will advance to the next level of competition even if their teams do not.
