37-year-old Aydreian D.A. Hooper of Fairfield is scheduled for sentencing this Thursday morning in connection with the hot car death of her 17-month-old son, Aaruan. Last December, Hooper pleaded guilty to a Class-3 felony charge of child endangerment resulting in death. As part of the plea agreement, charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct causing bodily harm, and additional child endangerment charges were dropped.
Due to the nature of the offense, which resulted in her child’s death, Hooper faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. After her guilty plea, she was released on bond and fitted with a GPS monitoring device.
The incident occurred on July 14th of last year, when temperatures exceeded 90 degrees. During this time, Aaruan’s brother, Gage Hooper Gonzales, was also left in the hot car and suffered a severe brain injury. Following the incident, Gage and his five surviving siblings were removed from the family home by the Illinois Department of Family Services and placed in the care of relatives.
Sentencing is set for 9 AM this Thursday with Judge Denton Aud of White County presiding.
