A 20-year-old man from Keenes was critically injured in a flash fire on Friday afternoon. The man, whose name has not been released by authorities, was using a plasma cutter at 4-Mile Welding when acetone fumes ignited, resulting in a flash fire.

The victim sustained second-degree burns over 75% of his body and was airlifted from the scene to a burn center in St. Louis following the accident, which occurred just before 1pm.   The victim is now home undergoing burn therapy and he is known to be a member of the local Mennonite community.

Wayne City Fire Chief, Scott Clark says firemen responded to the scene but found that the fire had already been extinguished by his co-workers. They had quickly removed the victim’s burned clothing and placed him in a shower to cool his injuries before an AirEvac helicopter arrived for transport to the hospital.
