Area rivers are below flood stage this morning. The latest stages: Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 13.47 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the reading is 8.64 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. At Carmi the river is at 17.84 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City reads 5.96 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 7.8 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 3.37 feet.
The six to ten day outlook from the National Weather Service shows near normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation expected for our area. The 8 to 14 day outlook, running from March 8th through 14th, shows above normal temperatures and precipitation expected. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map, released Thursday, shows Wayne County and areas to the south in Illinois are not in any Abnormally Dry or drought conditions, while the rest of the state is shown as either Abnormally Dry or in a Moderate Drought.
The current forecast shows dry weather in our area until early next week, when rain chances return, along with chances for thunderstorm activity.
