The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed its previous decision allowing year-round E15 sales in eight Midwest states, including Illinois, starting April 28th.
In response to concerns about fuel supply transitions, the EPA will consider requests for a one-year delay for states needing extra time to comply, with Ohio already making such a request. Additionally, the agency is exploring emergency waivers to permit continued E15 sales nationwide this summer if no legislative action occurs.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated, “This decision underscores EPA’s commitment to consumer access to E15 while ensuring a smooth transition for fuel suppliers and refiners.” The finalized rule removes a 1.0-psi fuel volatility waiver in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, which was initially approved for year-round E15 sales last year but delayed until 2025.
