Jury selection and testimony began Monday in the trial of a Fairfield man accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

Jordan M. Jones, 28, faces five Class-X felony charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a minor. A Wayne County Grand Jury indicted Jones on August 20, 2024, and he has remained in the Wayne County Jail since his arrest on August 12 of that year.

Judge Denton W. Aud of White County has repeatedly denied Jones’ requests for pretrial release, citing his potential threat to individuals or the community. Jones is represented by attorney Amanda Levanti of Benton, Illinois.

If convicted, Jones faces a sentence ranging from six to 60 years for each of the five charges. The trial is now underway, with jurors hearing testimony as proceedings continue.
