Three suspects arrested in a murder investigation in Mount Vernon have been identified. Police found 57-year-old Patrick Williamson early Monday morning in the 600 block of South 15th Street with visible signs of injury. Williamson, a well-known car salesman at Monken Toyota, was remembered fondly by his colleagues. A spokesperson for the dealership described him as one of the friendliest employees they had ever known, always bringing a smile and a sense of humor to work. “We will miss him dearly,” they said. Following the discovery of Williamson, authorities quickly took two individuals into custody. They later identified the location of a potential third suspect, leading to a high-risk operation. At approximately 8:15 PM on Monday, the High Risk Team executed a search warrant in the 500 block of South 17th Street, where the third suspect was safely apprehended.
The suspects have been identified as 60-year-old Laura Lee Beneway from Bonnie, and two Mount Vernon residents, 67-year-old Eddie G. Bennett and 66-year-old Peter M. Harris.
Charges have been filed against the suspects: Beneway faces two counts of first-degree murder related to a forcible felony, one count of concealing a homicidal death, and one count of obstructing justice. Bennett is charged with two counts of first-degree murder stemming from a forcible felony and one count of first-degree murder under the act of probability of death. Harris faces similar charges, including two counts of first-degree murder involving a forcible felony, one count of first-degree murder under the act of probability of death, and obstructing justice.
The Mount Vernon Police Department says that the investigation is ongoing.
