Louis Charles “Louie” Peck, 82 of Wayne City

82 year old Wayne City resident, Louis Charles “Louie” Peck passed away Friday morning at the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Louis was born January 17, 1943 in Pine Ridge, SD to Gib and Lucile (Stratton) Peck. He was the 5th of 10 children. Louis graduated from Brookings High School in SD before leaving home to begin his career as a jockey. The first place he rode race horses was at Ellis Park. He began another 20 year career as a trainer of race horses, earning a leading trainer title at Beulah Park. Louie gave his life to the Lord in 1975 and became a deacon at Winstanley Baptist Church in 1986.

Louie married Donna Edmison on March 28, 1963 at the Keenes Missionary Baptist Church.

They celebrated 62 wedding anniversaries before his passing. He was a devoted and loving father to Rod and Pam, who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. Among them was a strong work ethic and a love of horses. He took great pride in being a parent and was proud to see his children grow up to be people of integrity and responsibility.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Neil, Clinton, Darrel and Bobby. His sisters; Bonnie Portwood and Ethel Whitcher.

Louie is survived by his wife, Donna, 2 children; Rodney (Terri) Peck of Muscatine, IA and Pamela (Roger) Neff of Spencer, OK. Sisters; Billie Larvie, Cathy Peck and Elsie Meeks. One grandson, Erie Ostendorf, along with numerous nieces and nephews and step grand and great grand children.

Funeral services for Louis Charles “Louie” Peck will be held 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City. Burial will follow in the Thomason Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. to service time at the chapel.

Memorials may be given in memory of Louie to the Keenes Baptist Church.
