Voters in Wayne County will head to the polls tomorrow for the 2025 Consolidated Municipal Election. This election features a range of important local positions, including city mayors, village presidents, clerks, trustees, township supervisors, and board members for schools and park districts. Several races are shaping up to be competitive, with multiple candidates vying for your vote.
Here’s a look at the contested races in Wayne County:
Fairfield: While Mayor Gary S. Moore enjoys an unopposed run for reelection, the race for Alderman in Ward 2 is heating up. Angelique L. Maguire and Clifford Reever are facing off for the position.
Fairfield Public School District #12: The race for the Fairfield Public School District #12 board sees six candidates vying for four seats: Brandon Berghaus, Jamie F. Jones, Karen Baker, Trinity Lee Fry, Caleb James Higginbotham, and Rachel Ewing.
Jasper School Board: Five candidates are in the running for four seats on the Jasper School Board: Jarod Blanton, Wesley Allen Legg, Joshua R. Zurliene, Jon LaFikes, and Shawn Otey.
Zif Township: Five candidates are vying for four trustee seats in Zif Township: Warren Scott Hosselton, Mitchell Noll, Jason Dehart, Dustin Atteberry, and Larry Leon Hosselton.
Keith Township: Four candidates are running for four trustee seats including: Major Brad Mugrage, Ty Warren, Anthony Weidner and Scott Michels. For Supervisor, Robert Noblet and for Clerk, Roger McGrew. For Keith Township Road Commissioner, James Jordan.
Big Mound Township: The race for Trustee is crowded, with seven candidates competing for four seats. Republicans Nathan Vaughn, Rodger Parrott, Charles Richard Young, and Michael C. Irwin are up against Democrats David L. Buchanan and Sara Buchanan.
Wayne City: The Village President race sees incumbent Rocky Hedden challenged by Stephen Buxton, Jr. Meanwhile, five candidates are in the running for three village trustee positions: Paul Bruinsma, Timothy B. Piper, Ronald D. Williams, Gary Cline, and Jarod Peyton.
Massilon Township: Seven candidates are competing for four trustee seats in Massilon Township. Republicans Steve Bunnage, Wm. Noel Madding, John Allison, and Mark Bunnage face off against Democrats Richard Waters, Allen R. Endsley, and William Bunnage.
Mt. Erie Township: The race for Highway Commissioner sees Steve Bass squaring off against Chris Massie. The trustee race is also competitive, with Republicans Darrin Atteberry, Randal Hedrick, Dennis Taylor, and Nick Howard competing against Democrats Dave Meadows and C. Craig Massie for four positions.
Orel Township: The Highway Commissioner race features Republican Donnie Down against independent candidate Jason “Peanut” Frazier.
Three candidates are competing for two seats on the Illinois Eastern Community College District 529 board of trustees: John McLaughlin, Susan G. Batchelor, and John D. Brooks.
