A West Virginia teenager found himself in a sticky situation on his way to Utah around 5 am Thursday morning, ending up in the Skillet Fork backwater after his GPS directed him to exit I-64 and navigate to Linder Street in Mill Shoals.

Fairfield Rural Fire Department and the White County ambulance personnel arrived at the scene for a water rescue. Linder Street, a dead-end road leading west out of Mill Shoals, runs past the town’s sewer plant and ends near some oilfield tanks.

Fortunately, emergency personnel successfully rescued the 19-year-old driver and brought him to safety on dry land. A tow truck was utilized to retrieve the Kia Sorento from the water. The driver was unharmed, although emergency workers noted that the water level rose by at least four inches during the rescue.
