Sylvia M. McDannel, 90, of Fairfield

Sylvia M. McDannel, 90, of Fairfield, passed away at 10:49pm on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at her home. She had been the custodian of Cornerstone Community Church, formerly the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, for 54 years. She was also a member of New Beginnings Church in Fairfield for several years.

Sylvia was born on November 4, 1934, in Pontiac, IL, to Lillian (Hulse) Kiss.  She married the love of her life, John McDannel, who preceded her in death in 2005.

Survivors include a son Ron McDannel of Fairfield, two daughters Judy (Dannie) Ray of Cisne, and Kathie (Brad) Moore of Fairfield, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, a sister Sandi (Dick) Clark of Fairfield, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John McDannel, a son Donnie McDannel, a great granddaughter Aaliyah Gill, her sister Mary Council, and her brother Larry Kiss.

Funeral services for Sylvia McDannel will be at 1pm on Wednesday, April 9th at New Beginnings Church in Fairfield with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will be accepted during the funeral services or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
