Fairfield Rural Fire Department along with Fairfield City Firemen and Wayne County Ambulance personnel were called to the Geff Grade School just after 9 o’clock Monday morning on a report of smoke in the building. Fairfield Rural Fire Chief, David Vaughan says a malfunctioning tankless water heater was the cause of smoke inside the school building. There was no fire, only smoke as the school was evacuated with students and staff being allowed inside the school a short time later. No injuries were reported.
