USDA RELEASES FIRST WEEKLY CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION REPORT

The first weekly report on crop progress and conditions for the season indicates that just 1% of soybeans have been planted as of Sunday, down from 2% at the same time last year. The USDA has reported that no corn has been planted yet.

 

During the week ending April 6th, there were 1.7 days suitable for fieldwork. The average statewide temperature was 47.2 degrees, slightly below normal by 0.1 degrees. Precipitation during this period averaged 3.39 inches, which is 2.71 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture levels were assessed as follows: 1% very short, 11% short, 54% adequate, and 34% surplus. For subsoil moisture, the ratings were 1% very short, 31% short, 45% adequate, and 23% surplus.

 

As for soybean planting, it stands at 1%. The condition of winter wheat is rated as 2% poor, 35% fair, 55% good, and 8% excellent.
