BIKE SAFETY DAY COMING TO ALBION SATURDAY, MAY 3RD

By Mark Wells Apr 28, 2025 | 11:57 AM

Mark your calendars for a fun and educational event coming up in Edwards County. On Saturday, May 3rd, from 1 to 4 p.m., the House of Prayer will host a Bike Safety Day, open to all kids from kindergarten through eighth grade.

This event is sponsored by the Edwards County 4-H Clubs and the Edwards County Soil & Water Conservation District. It’s a great opportunity for children to learn important bike safety tips and enjoy a day of games, snacks, and fun activities — all at no cost.

The highlight of the day will be a bike safety program by the Albion City Police Department, including bike inspections. Volunteers will check bikes for reflectors, brakes, chains, pedals, and seats. If minor repairs are needed, volunteers will make the adjustments on the spot.

Several local businesses have donated to make this event possible, including United Mutual Insurance, State Farm Insurance, Country Companies, and McDonald’s in Albion. And, for a special treat, Walmart has generously donated four bikes — two for ages 5 to 8, and two for ages 9 to 12 — which will be given away during the event.

Kids don’t need to be a 4-H member to participate, and there’s no fee to attend. To reserve a spot, parents are encouraged to contact the Edwards County Extension at 618-445-2934. While early sign-up isn’t required, it’s strongly recommended.
