Mount Carmel Police Saturday afternoon received a report of a missing 62-year-old man who had not returned home after mushroom hunting the Friday evening in the area between the 3rd Street overpass and the railroad tracks toward Oak Street.

After an unsuccessful search of the area, Mount Carmel Police Department requested assistance from the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Carmel Fire Department, Allendale Fire Department, Bellmont Fire Department, and the Wabash Emergency Management Agency. Emergency responders began a search, and around 3:45 p.m., members of the Bellmont Fire Department located the individual approximately half a mile northeast of the overpass, about 15 feet down a railroad track embankment, with his feet pinned under a fallen tree.

It was reported that the individual had fallen down the embankment late Friday afternoon. Responders and medics from Wabash General Ambulance Service worked together to carefully move the man from the embankment to the ambulance. The man was alert and reported minor injuries. He was later transported to Wabash General Hospital for medical treatment.
