Here’s the latest area river stages as of this morning:  the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 23.45 feet, above the 17-foot flood stage.  At Clay City the stage is 14.48 feet, below the 18-foot flood stage.  At Carmi the river is at 27.01 feet, at the 27-foot flood stage.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 9.5 feet.  Flood stage is 15 feet, and the Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 12.67 feet.  Flood stage is 19 feet.  Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 9.09 feet.

Rain chances stay in the forecast for the weekend and into Monday, and return again around the middle of next week.  Temperatures are expected to stay below normal for most of next week and the next few days, according to the six- to-ten day extended outlook.  The month of May as a whole is expected to trend warmer and drier, according to the Climate Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service put out a Special Weather Statement this morning about the possibility of cold air funnels today.  It reads as follows:

Cold air funnels will be possible...

Cold air funnels are expected today. These cold air funnels are
developing underneath a few showers that are moving across the
area. Underneath these showers...spinning columns of air that look
like tornadoes may continue to develop. These funnels usually are
very brief and rarely touch the ground. If these funnels do touch
down...they most likely will not cause damage to life or
property.

Cold air funnels are due to very cool air aloft...warm moist air
near the ground...and are usually in association with a strong
area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Due to
little or no wind shear...they are usually weak and very brief.
