By Mark Wells May 6, 2025 | 11:58 AM

Megan Valentine made an in-person appearance Friday in Edwards County Circuit Court as legal proceedings continue in the case involving the death of her husband, Judge Michael J. Valentine. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.

Valentine, 44, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband, Edwards County Circuit Judge Michael J. Valentine, who was killed at the couple’s home north of Albion on Election Day, November 5, 2024. He died from a gunshot wound to the back.

Much of Friday’s court session was closed to the public, as attorneys for both the Valentine and Megan’s families addressed guardianship issues concerning the couple’s two children, Mia Rose and Michael Joseph Valentine III. For now, the children are being cared for by relatives in Albion.

Both sets of grandparents attended the hearing.

The only matter addressed in open court was the scheduling of the next pretrial hearing, which is set for July 3rd. Megan Valentine’s attorney, Jessica Koester of Edwardsville, appeared via Zoom. The State was represented by David Robinson, Chief Deputy Director of the Illinois State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.

Megan Valentine remains in custody at the White County Jail in Carmi.
