A woman from Woodlawn, Illinois, is facing more than 100 charges after authorities uncovered a puppy mill with over 120 dogs living in extremely poor conditions inside an abandoned veterinary clinic near Paducah, Kentucky. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office began investigating last week after receiving a tip about the large number of dogs at the former Reidland Veterinary Clinic on Reidland Road.

When deputies arrived, they found the animals in dire circumstances, with many areas of the building lacking ventilation, electricity, and temperature control. Most of the dogs were kept on carpet, surrounded by feces and urine, indicating severe neglect. A search warrant confirmed the presence of 124 dogs inside the facility.

The building had been rented by 66-year-old  Suzanne Alt of Woodlawn.  Alt admitted to law enforcement that the dogs belonged to her and revealed she was already under investigation in Illinois for the same animals. She was cited on 111 counts of Inhumane Treatment of Animals.

Authorities in McCracken County are working with animal control officers to fully investigate the case. The McCracken County Animal Control has taken custody of the dogs to ensure they receive proper care. The investigation is ongoing as officials continue to explore the full scope of the situation.
