USDA RELEASES ILLINOIS CROP REPORT

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that Illinois farmers have reached the halfway point in planting both corn and soybeans as of the week ending May 11th.

Farmers had 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week.   Soil conditions varied, with topsoil moisture rated at: 3% very short,  16% short ,  54% adequate and  27% surplus.

Subsoil moisture was rated:  4% very short, 18% short ,  55% adequate and 23% surplus.

Corn planting progress reached 54%, just below the five-year average of 60%, with 25% of the crop emerged, nearly matching the average of 26%.

Soybean planting was slightly ahead of schedule at 51%, compared to the five-year average of 48%.

Soybeans emerged were at 22%, above the average of 18%.

 

For winter wheat, 46% of the crop has headed, compared to the five-year average of 57%. The wheat crop condition was reported as:  1% very poor, 5% poor, 34% fair,  49% good and  11% excellent.
