A man is facing multiple charges following a 10-day crime spree spanning several counties that resulted in the recovery of five stolen vehicles, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began on April 29th, when deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in Whiteash. They discovered that the suspect, Wesley J. New, had allegedly removed a  battery from one vehicle to steal another. Deputies later located the stolen vehicle traveling east on Route 13 in Marion, conducted a traffic stop, and took New into custody.

New was initially cited for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, driving while license suspended, and no valid driver’s license, and booked into the Williamson County Jail. Investigators later determined that New had earlier stolen a vehicle from Colp to travel to Whiteash, where he abandoned it and committed the second vehicle theft. He was issued two additional counts of theft.

However, under provisions of the SAFE-T Act, New was released from jail on April 30th.

On the morning of May 9th, deputies responded to a report of two stolen vehicles from a property in the 7000 block of Propeller Point Lane in Carbondale. The victim reported the theft of a Ford F-150, a Jeep Cherokee, and several items including chainsaws. The Jeep Cherokee was recovered shortly afterward near the residence.

Later that night, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department located the stolen Ford F-150 in front of a home in Belle Rive. At the same time, a local resident reported a motorcycle stolen from their property.

In the early hours of May 10th, Williamson County deputies responded to Cambria Park, where they found a man sleeping underneath a motorcycle in the parking lot. The man was identified as Wesley J. New. The motorcycle was confirmed to be the one stolen in Belle Rive.

Through their ongoing investigation, sheriff’s detectives connected New to the theft of the Ford F-150, Jeep Cherokee, and the motorcycle, along with several additional stolen items.

New now faces the following charges:

Possession of a stolen motor vehicle (motorcycle)

Theft over $10,000 but less than $100,000 (Ford F-150)

Three counts of theft over $500 but less than $10,000

Burglary over $500

Violation of pre-trial release

New has been booked back into the Williamson County Jail.

Authorities say the investigation remains active and additional charges may be forthcoming.
