Illinois lawmakers are sending a measure that would end mandatory road testing for drivers under 87 to Governor Pritzker’s desk. The bill was approved by the state Senate yesterday. Illinois is the only state that requires a behind-the-wheel driving test for seniors based on age. Currently in the state, drivers 79 and up are required to take vision and behind-the-wheel tests when renewing their licenses.
A number of lanes that have been closed for construction in Illinois will reopen for Memorial Day weekend. This is being done in order to minimize travel disruption. Non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. this afternoon until to 11:59 p.m. Monday night.
A bill that would require seat belts for all new Illinois school buses is heading to Governor Pritzker’s desk. The state House and Senate passed legislation that would require any school bus manufactured in Illinois to have three point seat belts starting in 2031. Supporters of the bill believe it will improve student safety.
Illinois football public season tickets are sold out for the first time in at least 20 years. Illinois has sold over 34-thousand public season tickets. The Fighting Illini’s final season ticket total for kickoff against Western Illinois on August 29th is expected to exceed 43-thousand.
