Charles Raymond Michels, 83, of Carmi, and formerly of Cowling

Charles Raymond Michels, 83, of Carmi, and formerly of Cowling, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Wabash Senior Living and Rehabilitation. He was born a son of Raymond Edward and Cora Louise (Simpson) Michels. On September 16, 1961, Charlie married Letha Marie Higginson in Mt. Carmel and together they shared more than 63 years of marriage before her passing on December 30, 2024.

Charles worked as a truck driver for many years, He enjoyed collecting pocketknives, guns and train memorabilia. One of his most memorable accomplishments was his commitment to join his wife in furthering their education as they studied and graduated together with their General Education Diplomas. Over the years Charlie and Letha also volunteered at the Cowling Community Center. Charlie was a man of faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Grayville.

Survivors Include his children, John David Michels of Calera, AL, Leigh Ann (Kim) Malone of Carmi and Dena (Charles) Siegert of Grayville; grandchildren, Brandon Siegert of Grayville, Amelia (Dan) Allen of Champaign, IL, Haley (Nick) Brown of Evansville, IN, Mitchell (Hailey) Malone of Grayville, Mallory Michels of Safety Harbor, FL and Johnna Michels of Gilbertsville, KY; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Charli Brown, Kolson and Emersyn Malone and Maxwell, Wren, Griffin and Leo Allen and a brother Larry (Gloria) Michels

Along with his wife, Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jimmy Michels.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 2301 Broster Road. Grayville, Illinois, with Pastor David Smith and Reverend Mick Laflin officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Antioch Cemetery in Cowling. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlie’s memory may be made to First Baptist Church Grayville and will be accepted at the church. Roberts and Cook Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
