CITY OF FAIRFIELD / NEW HOPE WATERWORKS FLUSHING HYDRANTS NEXT WEEK

By Mark Wells May 29, 2025 | 12:15 PM

According to City of Fairfield Water Department Superintendent Brad Young, Water Department Employees will be opening hydrants throughout the city between June 2nd and June 6th.

This is done each Spring and Fall to ensure the system stays clean and to provide safe, pure water for your health and safety.

You are advised to check your water for discoloration before doing laundry or similar activities.  While flushing the water lines you may also notice the water may be temporarily discolored due to the concentration of iron in the water.  If your water is discolored, it does not mean it is unsafe to drink.  Also while flushing occurs, you may experience a dip in water pressure.

Your patience is greatly appreciated and if you have any questions, you may call 618-842-7015 or 618-842-5016.

Hydrants are flushed twice a year for health and safety purposes.  To learn more about this process, feel free to call during regular business hours which are 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays

The Flushing Schedule will be as follows:

Monday – 1st Ward – Every hydrant east of 1st Street

Tuesday – 2nd Ward – Every hydrant north of Elm Street between 1st and 7th

Wednesday – 3rd Ward – Every hydrant south of Elm between 1st and 7th

Thursday – 4th Ward – Every hydrant west of 7th stopping at Kincaid’s

Friday – Outlying areas being Walmart, Petroleum Boulevard, Brach Oaks, Highway 45 South, and Highway 15 East to the City’s Filter Plant

According to Ryan Gregory, with the New Hope Waterworks, they will also be flushing hydrants in their area beginning the first week of June.
