WABASH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AWARDED $5,000 SAFETY GRANT FOR BALLISTIC SHIELDS

In October 2024, Sheriff Derek Morgan and Jail Administrator James Sullivan attended the Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust (ICRMT) Jail/Road Conference in East Peoria.

During the conference, Sheriff Morgan was awarded a $5,000 equipment safety grant. After evaluating the department’s needs, the decision was made to invest in advanced ballistic shields. Utilizing the latest technology, these shields offer high-level protection while weighing only three pounds—significantly lighter than traditional models.

This new equipment will provide added protection for deputies in the field. Each Wabash County Deputy will be issued a shield as part of their standard gear.

“We hope to never have to use these shields, but if the need arises, we stand ready,” said Sheriff Morgan.

Since taking office in 2014, Sheriff Morgan has prioritized securing grant funding to equip the Sheriff’s Office with essential tools while minimizing the financial burden on taxpayers.
