Illinois State Police are identifying the man killed in an officer involved shooting last week in Williamson County.  Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Friday to a report of a male suspect that forced entry into a home on Drake Road.  A female inside the home confronted the suspect, who then fled into the woods.  Deputies searched the area and arrived at another home on Pleasant Valley Road where they located Jesse Shelton of Marion.  Authorities say he pulled out a firearm and pointed it toward multiple deputies.  A deputy then shot Shelton, who was pronounced dead at the scene.  State Police are investigating the incident.

Another major act is headlining this year’s Du Quoin State Fair.  Tucker Wetmore will perform at the fair on August 30th.  The breakout country sensation burst onto the scene with his debut singles “Wine Into Whiskey” and “Wind Up Missin’ You,” both earning spots on the Billboard Hot 100.  The ACM New Male Artist of the Year nominee had two standout tracks on the Twisters movie soundtrack.  The Du Quoin State Fair runs from August 22nd to September 1st.

A federal judge is rejecting Michael Madigan’s request for a new trial.  The judge denied a motion yesterday filed by the former Illinois House Speaker’s lawyers seeking to overturn his conviction on bribery and other corruption counts.  The ruling comes just days before Madigan is set to be sentenced on Friday.  Federal prosecutors have asked for a 12-and-a-half year prison sentence.
