The Fairfield Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 208 Southwest 7th Street on Thursday morning (June 12th).
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:14 a.m. and arrived just two minutes later to find flames visible from a window and smoke emerging from the roof. Two handlines were used to battle the blaze, and a supply hose was laid across Delaware Street, halting eastbound traffic at SW 7th Street.
Crews brought the fire under control within 19 minutes and continued working the scene to extinguish remaining hot spots. The home, occupied by John Cone, was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Fairfield Police Department. Fire crews cleared the scene at approximately 1:00 p.m.
The Fairfield Fire Department received assistance from Fairfield Rural Fire, Wayne County Ambulance, Fairfield Police Department, Wayne County 911, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Fairfield Gas Department, and Wayne White Electric.
