Hilliard “Junior” Ellis Jr.
May 19, 1954 – June 18, 2025
Hilliard Ellis Jr., affectionately known as “Junior,” passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was born May 19, 1954, in Jefferson County, Illinois, the son of the late Hilliard Ellis and Mildred (Shaw) Ellis, formerly of Keenes, Illinois.
Junior was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature, especially tending to plants. He enjoyed watching and reading Westerns, finding comfort and adventure in their stories. He is fondly remembered by one of his great-nieces for helping with a school project on plants—just one example of his kindness and quiet wisdom.
Junior is survived by his daughter, Christine Stauffer of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; six sisters: Mary Payne of Wayne City, Illinois; Brenda Bartolomucci of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; Hester Tullis of Ledbetter, Kentucky; Helen Dickey of Lawson, Missouri; and Millie Oliver of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; one brother, John Ellis of Kettle Falls, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will deeply miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Audra “Jean” Pearson and infant sister Ruth Marie Ellis; and two brothers, Donald Ellis and Paul Cook.
Funeral services for Hilliard Ellis Jr. will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at Young Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral service at Ten Post Oak Cemetery in Keenes, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to assist with final expenses, and may be made to Young Funeral Home.
