The Volunteer Firemen’s Association of West Salem, Inc. is preparing for its much-anticipated Annual Freedom Celebration, taking place over the weekend of June 28th and 29th. The two-day community event will feature family-friendly entertainment, food, fireworks, and more in celebration of freedom and local spirit.
The celebration kicks off early Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. with a community breakfast hosted by West Salem Masonic Lodge No. 866 at the Lumberyard Restaurant on the north side of the Square. Starting at 7:00 a.m., residents can browse village-wide yard sales and register for the 5K Run/Walk at the First Christian Church.
At 10:00 a.m., the action moves to Centennial Park for a Wiffle Ball Tournament, with food vendors and live music joining in at 11:00 a.m. Later in the day, the “Chip for Cash” contest begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by a spectacular fireworks show at dusk.
Sunday begins with a community worship service on the Square at 10:00 a.m., followed by a corn hole tournament at 12:00 p.m.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. by The Smokin’ Pig at the firehouse, offering BBQ chicken or pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, and a drink for just $12.00 per plate.
From 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., visitors can enjoy the Car & Truck Show, and the celebration will close with a 50/50 drawing and huge raffle giveaway.
