The second annual No Limits Livestock Show was held at the Edwards County Fairgrounds on June 20th The No Limits Livestock Show is an all-inclusive swine show where 4-H youth exhibitors pair up with individuals with disabilities to experience the excitement of showing a pig. The event not only introduces participants to livestock and 4-H, but also fosters meaningful mentorships and lifelong memories.
This year, two participants from Edwards and Richland counties were teamed with local 4-H members who guided them through the process of preparing and showing pigs. Before entering the ring, participants learned about their animals, practiced basic showmanship, and gained confidence working with their swine partners.
Kevin Carey, Interim Assistant Dean/Program Leader & Director of Illinois 4-H, served as the judge for the event and evaluated each team’s performance. At the conclusion of the show, all participants received ribbons for their efforts and enthusiasm.
In his closing remarks, Carey emphasized the importance of accessibility in youth programs.
“Every single person across the state, between the ages of 5 and 18, deserves the opportunity to be in 4-H; regardless of ability, regardless of identity, regardless of experience, we want people to feel like they belong with us,” said Carey.
The event reflects 4-H’s mission to create opportunities for all youth to thrive. Families interested in getting involved are encouraged to reach out to their local 4-H offices.
