THREE FAMILY MEMBERS DROWN IN EMBARRAS RIVER NEAR STE. MARIE

Tragedy struck in Jasper County, Illinois, on Saturday evening when three members of the same family drowned while swimming in the Embarras River northwest of Ste. Marie.

 

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department reports that just after 5 p.m., dispatch received a call about multiple possible drownings. Emergency crews responded swiftly to the scene and recovered the bodies of the victims from the water.

 

Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer identified the deceased as 39-year-old Travis Lee Keebler, 12-year-old Adelyn Re’nee-Lee Keebler, and six-year-old Noah Joseph-Edgar Lee Keebler.

 

More than a dozen agencies and 40 to 50 emergency personnel assisted in the response. Among those on scene were Crawford County Rescue, Vincennes Township Fire Department, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Wade Fire Department, Jasper County Ambulance Service, Jasper County EMA, Oblong Fire Department, Crooked Creek Fire Department, Dieterich Fire Department, Greenup Ambulance Service, Jasper County Coroner’s Office, Montrose Fire Department, Newton Police Department, and Robinson Fire Department.
