Wayne County Sheriff’s Department has released additional details regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle early Friday morning around 1:45 near the Sims Crossroads. Deputies says a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by 37-year-old Abby Koontz of Fairfield was northbound on the Sims road near North Bond St. when the pickup truck Koontz was driving struck a bicycle in the middle of the roadway that was operated by 44-year-old John Cone of Fairfield. Koontz told deputies she did not see the bike as the bike did not having any lighting. Cone suffered a head injury and was airlifted from the scene by Air Evac to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville. Deputies issued a citation to Koontz for Operating An Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
