By Mark Wells Jul 3, 2025 | 5:57 AM

Gas prices could be lower heading into the 4th of July holiday.   A petroleum analyst at GasBuddy, Patrick DeHaan notes that gas prices in the US are lower due to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Independence Day travel is expected to set a record in Illinois, with 4.2 million total travelers and most of them, 3.86 million, hitting the roads.

The holiday travel will translate into $3.82 million in state gas taxes after Tuesdays annual increase, based on US averages for fuel efficiency and holiday mileage.  That is, if drivers buy their gas in Illinois.
