According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Flood Watch remains in effect today along the Interstate 64 corridor, following recent heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a Heat Advisory and Excessive Heat Warning cover nearly all areas south of I-64 today and continuing through Thursday. Heat index values are expected to range from 105 to 110 degrees through Tuesday, with the entire Quad State region bracing for dangerously high temperatures and humidity midweek.
Relief may come this weekend, as increased chances of thunderstorms return to the forecast, potentially bringing cooler conditions.
Officials are urging residents to take precautions during this stretch of extreme heat:
Drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned spaces
Avoid prolonged sun exposure
Check on elderly relatives and neighbors
Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles
Pet owners are reminded to bring animals indoors if possible. If not, ensure they have ample shade and fresh, cool water.
If you must be outdoors, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas during outdoor work. Anyone showing signs of heat illness should be moved to a cool location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911.
