Arizona Diamondbacks 5, St. Louis Cardinals 3         The St. Louis Cardinals began the second half of the MLB season on a sour note. The Cardinals were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 5-3 loss at Chase Field yesterday. St. Louis surrendered four runs in the bottom of the first and trailed the rest of the way. Miles Mikolas was charged with his seventh loss after allowing five runs on four hits in four innings. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 51-and-49. They send Michael McGreevy to the mound against the Rockies tonight.

MLB Interleague:
Boston Red Sox 6, Chicago Cubs 1         The Chicago Cubs fell apart in the late innings during a 6-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Wrigley Field. The Northsiders led by one entering the seventh inning before giving up two runs in that frame and four runs in the eighth. Ian Happ drove in Chicago’s only run, while Ryan Pressly was charged with his third loss in relief. The Cubs are still in first place in the NL Central at 59-and-40. They send Ryan Brasier to the mound against Kansas City tonight.

(Cincinnati, OH) — A New York City pawn shop owner is pleading guilty to selling stolen goods belonging to a football star. Dimitriy Nezhinskiy admitted to “fencing” the items once owned by Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Authorities say the 43-year-old was running a “black-market” pipeline. Burrow had about 300-thousand dollars worth of possessions stolen when his home was burglarized while on a road game last season.

(Kansas City, MO) — The Chiefs are locking up one of their young defensive stars with a new contract. ESPN reports that Kansas City is signing defensive end George Karlaftis to a four-year, 93-million-dollar contract extension. The deal includes 62-million-dollars guaranteed. The 24-year-old has two years remaining on his rookie contract and now has a deal that runs through the 2030 season. Karlaftis finished last season with 35 total tackles and eight sacks in 16 games played.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Bengals are kicking off training camp on the wrong foot. Rookie Shemar Stewart missed the opening session on Saturday as he remains the only player unsigned from April’s draft. The edge rusher was taken 17th-overall and didn’t participate in mandatory minicamp due to the contract dispute. Stewart is concerned about language in the agreement which could cost him guaranteed money.

(Undated) — The Seahawks are moving on from one of their offensive weapons. Seattle has released tight end Noah Fant following three seasons with the team. Fant’s release will save the team nearly nine-million-dollars in cap space. The 27-year-old had 130 receptions for 1,400 yards and five touchdowns throughout his three seasons with the franchise. The former first-round pick spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Denver Broncos.

(Undated) — The President wants a pair of pro sports teams to bring back their former names. President Trump posted to Truth Social on Sunday that Washington’s football franchise and Cleveland’s baseball team should return to their original team names. Washington dropped the name Redskins following the 2019 season and became the Commanders before 2022. Cleveland also underwent a rebranding in 2022 after changing its name from the Indians to the Guardians.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Yankees earned a series victory after topping the Braves 4-2 in their finale from Atlanta. Aaron Judge went deep in the top of the first with a solo shot for his 36th home run of the season. Marcus Stroman picked up his second win of the year after allowing one run over six innings. New York has now won back to back games. Grant Holmes was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. Atlanta has now dropped three of its last four.

(Chicago, IL) — The Red Sox salvaged their series finale against the Cubs after earning a 6-1 win at Wrigley Field. Wilyer Abreu went two for three with a pair of home runs and three RBIs. Alex Bregman slugged a pinch-hit three-run blast in the top of the eighth. Boston snapped its two-game skid. Ryan Pressly was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on one hit and a walk over his inning of relief. Chicago had its four-game winning streak come to an end, but still leads the NL Central.

(Austin, TX) — Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are adding another top player to their 2026 recruiting class. Five-star running back Derrek Cooper has announced his commitment to Texas. Cooper is ESPN’s top-ranked running back in the cycle. The Florida native chose the Longhorns over other finalists Florida State, Georgia, Miami and Ohio State. He becomes the fourth five-star pledge in the program’s 2026 class.

(Portrush, Northern Ireland) — Scottie Scheffler continues to add to his resume after winning The Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. Scheffler finished atop the leaderboard at 17 under par to win the tournament by four strokes. He is the first player during the modern major championship era to win his first four majors by three or more strokes. Harris English finished in second at 13 under. Chris Gotterup was third at 12 under par.

(Dover, DE) — Denny Hamlin outlasted the NASCAR Cup Series field from rainy Delaware to take home the checkered flag in the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400. The driver of the Number-11 car held off Chase Briscoe at Dover Motor Speedway. Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson and Ty Gibbs rounded out the top-five finishers. Gibbs will battle Ty Dillon in the final of the In-Season Challenge next Sunday at the Brickyard.
