It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Eugene “Danny” Barrett, who departed this life on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 57. He was born on October 16, 1967, in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of Sandra Gill and Donald Barrett. Danny was a cherished husband, father, son, brother, cousin and friend to all.
Danny was a proud resident of Irvington, Illinois, where he built a home filled with love and treasured memories. He spent his career as a skilled forklift technician, a profession he approached with dedication and expertise. Throughout his life, Danny was an active member of the First General Baptist Church of Centralia and was also a part of The Rock Church in Centralia. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and kind heart. He wasn’t preachy but he loved the Lord.
Danny was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, grilling, boating, and camping, and he had an amazing talent of making something out of nothing! He kept his family together, was a hands on dad and loved his friends and family very much. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Fairfield and Woodlawn Fire Departments, demonstrating his commitment to community and service. Danny will be forever missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts and stories of those left behind.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years: Carla Barrett of Irvington, and his beloved children: Bianca Ann Barrett of Flora, Danae Lynn Barrett of Fairview Heights, Avery Dean Barrett of Centralia, Aiden James Barrett of Irvington, and Shae Melody Barrett of Irvington. He had 3 grandchildren Ryder and River Barrett, and Raylin Cates. Danny is survived by parents, Jerry and Sandra Gill of Fairfield and Donald and Ginny Barrett of Geff, as well as his sister: Donnita Scott of Fairfield, and his half-sister: Diana Parris of Oklahoma. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Carl Weaver of Sandoval, his sister-in-law: Gayla Bell of Evansville, Indiana, and brother-in-law: Matt and Julia Weaver of North Carolina, along with several nieces and nephews.
Danny was preceded in death by both of his maternal and paternal grandparents and a special uncle, Jimmy White and his beloved mother-in-law, Linda Weaver.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the First General Baptist Church of Centralia. A second visitation will be on Friday morning, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, before the service begins. Funeral services in Celebration of Danny’s life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the First General Baptist Church in Centralia at 11:00am where Pastor Bryan Bennett and Pastor Steve Upchurch will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the family and/or to the Irvington Fire department . Donations will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801. Danny will be laid to rest at Round Prairie cemetery in Johnsonville. The funeral home is honored to serve the Barrett family during this difficult time.
