(Henderson, NV) — The Raiders are adding a three-time Pro Bowler to the defense. Las Vegas is signing safety Jamal Adams to a contract. The 29-year-old will now reunite with Raiders coach Pete Carroll after previously playing four seasons under him while with the Seattle Seahawks. Adams has compiled 501 tackles, 21-and-a-half sacks and four interceptions through 85 career games. The Raiders will be the fifth time Adams has played for after also suiting up for the New York Jets, Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions. The Raiders have also signed free agent cornerback JT Woods to a deal.

>>Former NFL Safety Tyrann Mathieu Retiring

(Undated) — Longtime NFL safety Tyrann Mathieu is retiring from the league after 12 seasons. The 33-year-old made the announcement on social media on Tuesday. Mathieu played for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints, spending his final three seasons with New Orleans. The Cardinals selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of LSU after he was dismissed from the university’s football program for repeated drug test failures. The three-time Pro Bowler won a Super Bowl title with the Chiefs in 2019.

>>Sauce Gardner Defends New Contract Extension

(Florham Park, NJ) — Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is confident in his ability. Gardner met with the media Tuesday and talked about his recent contract extension. The 24-year-old said he was grateful for the new deal, and that no matter what he does people will “blow things out of proportion.” The Jets signed Gardner to a four-year, 120-million-dollar extension that makes him the highest paid corner in the NFL.

>>Panthers Release LB Josey Jewell

(Charlotte, NC) — The Panthers are moving on from a member of their front seven. Starting linebacker Josey Jewell was released on Tuesday. Jewell has been in the concussion protocol since suffering a head injury in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals last season. The 30-year-old agreed to a three-year, 22-million-dollar contract with the Panthers in March of 2024. The team has not ruled out Jewell returning if he recovers fully from the concussion.

>>Report: Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson Will Skip Training Camp

(Cincinnati, OH) — The circus in Cincinnati is alive and well. ESPN reports Trey Hendrickson won’t report to training camp as he continues to look for a new contract. The NFL’s sack leader last season wants guaranteed money beyond the first year of a new deal, which the Bengals are hesitant to do. Cincy is already dealing with a holdout from rookie pass rusher Shemar Stewart, who is also in a contract dispute.

>>Rockies Give Ethan Holliday Record Signing Bonus

(Undated) — The Rockies are giving their first-round pick a record signing bonus. Colorado signed shortstop Ethan Holliday to a nine-million-dollar bonus on Tuesday. It is the largest bonus received by a high school player in draft history. Holliday was the fourth overall selection in the draft earlier this month. The bonus is tied for the fourth-highest bonus of all time. Holliday is the son of former Rockies legend Matt Holliday and is the younger brother of Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday.

>>Rays’ Brandon Lowe Lands On IL; Acquire Fairchild From Braves

>>Tyrese Haliburton Thinks Achilles Tears Are Bad Luck

(Undated) — One NBA star is sharing his opinion about an uptick in specific injuries. Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton said during his recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he thinks the increase in Achilles injuries around the NBA is nothing more than bad luck. >>Big Ten Commish Petitti Advocates For AQ-Heavy CFP

(Las Vegas, NV) — Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti laid out his ideal 16-team College Football Playoff Format. On the first day of Big Ten Media Days, Petitti said that his conference and the SEC should each have four automatic qualifiers, while the ACC and Big 12 would have two each. The final four slots would go to the highest-ranked Group of Six team and three at-large teams. He added that a format with only one automatic bid for the Big Ten “would have a hard time” getting the league’s support. An expansion to a 16-team playoff from the current 12-team model could begin as soon as the 2026 season.

>>ACC Releasing Availability Reports Before Conference Games

(Undated) — One collegiate conference is requiring all of its schools to update player availability before games this season. The ACC announced Tuesday that it will begin releasing public availability reports at least 48 hours prior to all conference games this football season. Players will be categorized as available, questionable, doubtful or out, with updates the day before a game and two hours before kickoff. Commissioner Jim Phillips said it’s intended to counter a push by gamblers to gain inside information.
