(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals are cutting some dead weight. The team designated starting pitcher Erick Fedde for assignment yesterday. Fedde had been a major disappointment since the Cardinals traded for him at last year’s deadline. He’s 5-and-15 with a 4.69 ERA in 30 starts since joining St. Louis. Michael McGreevy is expected to take Fedde’s spot in the rotation.

Colin Rea was charged with his fourth loss after surrendering five earned runs and one unearned run on six hits in five innings. Matt Shaw and Pete Crow-Armstrong both homered in the losing effort. Chicago is in second place in the NL Central at 60-and-42. The Cubs visit the White Sox tomorrow night.
(Tampa, FL) — The White Sox outlasted the Rays 11-9 to claim their three-game series from Tampa. Colson Montgomery led the offense with five RBI’s as the team plated six runs in the eighth inning. Jordan Leasure picked up his third win in relief. Chicago has won five of its last six games, but the Southsiders are still in last place in the AL Central at 37-and-66. The Sox welcome the Cubs tomorrow.
