An oilfield explosion in Edwards County Friday afternoon sent three people to the hospital with injuries.
According to reports from the area, the incident occurred around 2:30 Friday afternoon along Illinois Route 130 between Albion and Grayville. Grayville Police Chief Mason Sigel indicated that flames were shooting up and walls of smoke could be seen coming from the scene. Illinois Route 130 was shut down for a time while authorities investigated the incident. It has since reopened.
There was no word on the condition of the three that were injured. They were reportedly taken to area trauma centers for treatment. The explosion was believed to have occurred due to a pocket of gas igniting while some poles were being pulled out of the ground. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.
