Fairfield Man Arrested After Fleeing from Police

Eric A. Shelby, 30, of Fairfield was arrested Wednesday evening after fleeing from police. According to authorities at approximately 8 p.m., a Wayne County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near County Road 1450 East and Eckleberry Street near Cisne, Illinois. The truck failed to stop and accelerated its speed. The vehicle disregarded several traffic control devices in Cisne while fleeing. The vehicle then attempted to cross a ditch and became immobilized. After verbal commands to exit the vehicle, Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies took the subject into custody without incident. A search of Shelby’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of a a glass smoking device which tested positive for methamphetamine. Shelby was transported to the Wayne County Jail and held pending a court appearance. He was subsequently charged with: Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Damage to Property, and Driving While Suspended. Shelby was also found to have an active Richland County, Illinois Warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine. Shelby was also cited for numerous traffic offenses.
