(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals ended their fire sale by sending reliever Phil Maton to the Texas Rangers yesterday. The team acquired pitching prospects Skyler Hales and Mason Molina, along with some international bonus pool money. Maton signed a deal with the Cardinals ahead of the 2025 season. He went 1-and-3 with a 2.35 ERA and two saves in 40 games for St. Louis.

(San Diego, CA) — The St. Louis Cardinals will try to get back above .500 when they start a series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park tonight. The Cardinals just dropped two of three against the Marlins earlier in the week. St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central at 55-and-55. Matthew Liberatore starts for the Cardinals tonight. First pitch is at 8:40PM.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs finished reloading their roster by making a pair of trades ahead of the MLB trade deadline yesterday. The Northsiders acquired Twins utility man Willi Castro, who was an All-Star in 2024. Chicago sent pitching prospects Ryan Gallagher and Sam Armstrong to Minnesota to complete the deal. The Cubs also sent outfield prospect Ivan Brethowr in a trade that brought Taylor Rogers to Chicago. Rogers was an All-Star in 2021. He’s 2-and-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 40 games this season. The new-look Cubs host the Orioles this afternoon.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago White Sox wrapped up a quiet trade deadline by sending starting pitcher Adrian Houser to the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. The Southsiders received infielder Curtis Mead and pitching prospects Duncan Davitt and Ben Peoples to complete the deal. Houser went 6-and-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 11 starts with the Sox this season. Chicago takes on the Los Angeles Angels tonight.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Sky aim to avoid a seventh consecutive loss when they host the Golden State Valkyries at Wintrust Arena tonight. The Sky are coming off a 103-86 loss against the Washington Mystics on the road on Tuesday. Chicago is in 12th place in the WNBA at 7-and-19. Tonight’s game tips off at 6:30PM.

(Undated) — One member of the Indiana Fever has no problem coming to the defense of Caitlin Clark. During her new podcast “Show Me Something,” Fever guard Sophie Cunningham didn’t mince words when discussing how the WNBA has reacted to the arrival of Clark. Cunningham said she understands every rookie has to deal with coming into the league but recognizes Clark has received unfair treatment by the players. Indiana visits the Wings tonight in Dallas.

(Canton, OH) — A one-time Chicago Bears pass rusher joins football immortality this weekend. Jared Allen will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame tomorrow. Allen spent a year-and-a-half with the Bears from 2014 until 2015. He had five-and-a-half sacks in 18 games with Chicago. The enshrinement ceremony begins at noon tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Bears continue training camp today.

(Des Moines, IA) — The Indians have dropped back to back games after falling to the Cubs 6-2 in Des Moines. Drake Fellows was charged with the loss after allowing three runs, two of them earned, on three hits and two walks. Indianapolis hopes to bounce back when it continues its six-game set against Iowa tonight.

(Newton, IA) — The eyes of the NASCAR world shift to the Hawkeye State this weekend. The second running of the Iowa Corn 350 will be run on Sunday. Bubba Wallace will try to maintain his momentum after his win last week in Indianapolis. Ryan Blaney, who won the inaugural race last year, is looking to defend his crown. NASCAR Cup Series points leader Chase Elliott will try to maintain his lead atop the standings with just four races left until the playoffs.
