WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ASSISTS MT VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH SEARCH WARRANTS, ARRESTS MADE

Early Wednesday morning there were search warrants conducted in Mt. Vernon and Wayne City in connection with the July 27th shooting that occurred in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team conducted a search warrant in the 700 block of S 18th St. in Mt. Vernon. After securing the residence, investigators from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and IL State Police began their investigation.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, IL State Police and US Marshals, then conducted a search warrant on Lappen Ave in Wayne City.   After the residence was secured, investigators began their investigation.

Two individuals have been arrested following a continued investigation.

 

Davonta Boyd, 25, of Mt. Vernon, has been charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Dequan Hopkins, 29, of Wayne City, faces charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Offender.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
