An additional arrest has been made in connection with the July 27th shooting that left two people dead and several others injured in the 600 block of South 15th Street in Mt. Vernon.
Mt. Vernon Police have arrested 26-year-old Jamaro J. Kemmerling of Mt. Vernon. He is charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender.
As part of an ongoing investigation, Mt. Vernon Police executed search warrants Wednesday in Mt. Vernon and Wayne City, leading to two more arrests:
Davonta Boyd, 25, of Mt. Vernon, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Dequan Hopkins, 29, of Wayne City, was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Offender.
The Mt. Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team executed a search warrant in the 700 block of South 18th Street as part of the investigation. The operation involved coordination with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, and U.S. Marshals.
A second search warrant was carried out on Lappin Avenue in Wayne City, and further investigative work followed once the residence was secured.
Authorities say the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to come forward. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest.
