MT. CARMEL MAN KILLED IN INDIANA CRASH

29-year-old Jacob Adam Birkla of Mt. Carmel died Monday evening after his Buick Lacrosse was struck broadside by a semi on Indiana State Road 68 near Haubstadt.
Gibson County authorities said the crash happened shortly before 8 p.m. when Birkla, traveling south on County Road 250 East, failed to yield at the intersection. A semi driven by Marcia D. Ajogri, 41, of Clarksville, Tenn., collided with Birkla’s vehicle, pinning him inside.
Birkla was pronounced dead at the scene. A 2014 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School, Birkla earned a bachelor’s degree in television and video production from Eastern Illinois University in 2019.
