The Wayne City Village Board met Monday night. The board approved a project not to exceed $7,500 with Electronic Architects to install and upgrade digital surveillance cameras at the municipal workshop, village hall, and water plant. Officials said the new system will provide video clarity sufficient to identify drivers without a separate license plate reader.

Members offered no comments during their meeting regarding the sentencing of former Police Chief Anson Fenton, who was ordered on July 30th to serve two years’ probation and pay $14,800 in restitution after pleading guilty to federal charges of misapplication of confiscated property.
U.S. District Judge Stephen P. McGlynn handed down the sentence after Fenton admitted to selling two confiscated motorcycles and trading a third in Virginia for a personal vehicle. Prosecutors said Fenton “used his position of trust as a police officer to deceive the community he was sworn to protect.” The crimes carried potential penalties of up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines, though neither was imposed.
Board members said they are ready to move forward with Police Chief Jason Settles, hired in June.
