FATAL CRASH SOUTH OF SIMS CLAIMS LIFE OF WAYNE CITY MAN

A 27-year-old Wayne City man was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident on a gravel T-intersection road south of Sims.
According to authorities, the crash occurred in the early morning hours as the Illinois State Police, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Wayne City Ambulance, and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene after a passenger from the vehicle walked to a nearby residence to seek assistance.
The passenger was transported to a hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, identified as Nick Downen of Wayne City, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 a.m. by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
The incident remains under investigation by authorities.
