Michael Madigan is being ordered to report to prison while he appeals his conviction in his corruption case. A federal judge denied a request by the former Illinois House Speaker to remain free. Madigan must report to federal prison on October 13th to begin a seven-and-a-half-year sentence behind bars. He was found guilty in February of bribery and other corruption counts. Federal prosecutors say Madigan conspired with others to get ComEd to make monetary payments to his associates in exchange for favorable legislation.
Governor JB Pritzker isn’t ruling out a 2028 presidential run. While appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” yesterday, Pritzker said he can’t rule out anything, but any decision he makes will be about the people of Illinois. The governor also responded to a question about whether he was being hypocritical for criticizing Texas’ redistricting plan when the vast majority of Illinois’ congressional districts are Democratic. Pritzker said they held public and legislative hearings before a map was passed at the end of the census, while Texas Republicans are changing the rules mid-decade at the behest of the president of the United States.
