Wayne County Sheriff Chris Otey announced this morning (Thursday) that he will seek re-election.
In his announcement, Otey called serving the community “an incredible honor” and credited his team at the Sheriff’s Office for their dedication to making Wayne County a safer place to live.
“While I am proud of all we have accomplished, there is still work to be done,” Otey said, pledging to maintain a proactive, community-focused approach to law enforcement. He emphasized his commitment to building strong partnerships, enhancing public safety, and addressing challenges “with transparency and integrity.”
“Serving the citizens of Wayne County has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Otey added. “I humbly ask for your support as I seek to continue this service and keep moving our community forward.”
Otey was appointed sheriff in September 2021 following the resignation of Sheriff Mike Everett and was later elected to a full four-year term in 2022. He began his career with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department in 2007, serving as the department’s K-9 officer, sergeant, and detective sergeant before assuming the role of sheriff.
