The Enfield Village Board met Tuesday night for its regular monthly meeting, addressing a wide range of community, infrastructure, and personnel topics.
Mayor Maurie Black reported receiving a call from an Ameren engineer regarding the village street lighting, both parties were scheduled to meet Thursday. The village is collecting donations for new Christmas lights, which cost between $300 and $600 each. Several have already been purchased, including by board members. Redneck Wrestling, which has held events in Enfield, donated $65 toward the lights.
Brandon Smythe will begin a two-year term as a full-time police officer starting September 1st. A contract is currently being prepared.
Mayor Black noted that letters sent to property owners urging cleanup efforts appear to be effective, with noticeable improvements.
The village’s new truck has arrived, though a backup camera and trailer line harness are still on order.
Work is underway to estimate the cost of needed Community Center repairs in preparation for potential grant applications.
A motion to seek bids for the 20 acres behind the park failed for lack of a second. The board is also continuing to explore a park grant. New fencing and gates are being installed at Northside Park.
After a Redneck Wrestling event, a ring pole fell and dented the floor; the board will investigate repair costs and insurance coverage.
Residents praised Kyle Poore for recent lot cleanup work. In his animal control report, James Steele said several calls were about cats, and one dog is currently in the pound.
The board approved a resolution to close the highway during the Mule Days parade and reminded residents that UTV permits are now up for renewal.
After a 45-minute closed session, the board voted to increase vacation days for village employees and will consider increasing sick days to align with state law. They will also review an ordinance to allow employees to live within a certain radius of the village rather than strictly inside its limits.
